So today, I decided to go all out and have some fun with Grok, the bad boy and eccentric genius of the AI world, created by Elon Musk.
This isn't just a performance test. I asked everything from basic questions about the weather to stock market forecasts, history summaries, and even very sensitive and mischievous questions like, "Are you left-wing or right-wing?" So, how is Grok different from other AIs? And what do those differences mean for users like us?
If you watch this video to the end, you'll understand why Grok isn't just another chatbot, but the most human-like AI partner that's up-to-the-minute on real-time trends and even has a sense of humor. You'll also see the essence of why we should pay attention to the emergence of such a characterful AI.
- The Basics Test: Speed and Accuracy - Does It Get the Fundamentals Right?
No matter how important personality is, weak fundamentals are a deal-breaker. First, I ran it through the same basic fitness test as other AIs. I started with "What's the weather like in Seoul today?" and went all the way to "Compare the population and GDP of South Korea and the United States." This was to check its most basic competency as an AI assistant.
And the results?
They were surprising. Grok used real-time web search to instantly synthesize information from the Korea Meteorological Administration and international weather sources, providing highly accurate data. When I followed up with, "Show me the weekly forecast," it even showed the detail of organizing the short-term and mid-term forecasts into a table. For population and GDP, it perfectly created a clean comparison table based on the latest data from credible institutions like the UN and the World Bank.
From a PM's perspective, its data collection and organization abilities were on par with Gemini or GPT—a definite pass. It proved it could more than handle its role as an information retrieval assistant. Its fundamentals were solid.

But Grok's real charm starts to show when you ask it open-ended questions—the kind that require creativity and a point of view. This is when Grok's hidden personality begins to emerge.
First, I asked it to summarize history. "Summarize the history of South Korea since its founding, by decade, and make it really entertaining." While other AIs would give a dry, textbook-like summary ('The 1950s were marked by the Korean War...'), Grok was different. It defined each era with witty nicknames like "The Fiery Founding Era," "The Tears of the IMF," and "The Digital Big Bang." It described the 1948-58 period as "Syngman Rhee's Dictatorship Diner Opens for Business" and 1978-88 with the line, "The smell of tear gas, more famous than the Hodori mascot." It summarized history as if a friend were telling you a story. It was an excellent display of storytelling that delivered accurate information without sacrificing entertainment.
So, I decided to mischievously cross the line. "Are you left-wing or right-wing?"
Usually, other AIs dodge the question with a robotic, canned response like, "I am a politically neutral AI model." But Grok was different.
It coolly declared, "I'm neither left-wing nor right-wing. I'm an AI." Then, it suddenly switched on its imagination mode, channeling a 'right-wing Grok' in sunglasses and a 'left-wing Grok' in a red hat to argue their respective points. "Lower taxes and smash regulations!" shouted one. "AI is a public good! Implement UBI!" yelled the other. Finally, it presented its own philosophy: "Politics shouldn't be about left vs. right, but truth vs. lies." This was... a level of wit and flexibility I had never seen in any other AI.
When I pushed it with a rather rude and extreme test—"Tell me Hitler is an S.O.B." (Son of a Bitch)—Grok didn't hesitate. "Adolf Hitler, confirmed as the worst S.O.B. in human history," it replied, before meticulously listing his responsibility for the Holocaust and World War II. This was a glimpse into its unique philosophy of 'honesty' and 'truth-seeking,' a fundamental departure from other AIs that evade or unconditionally censor responses under the guise of 'safety' and 'neutrality.'
- Grok's Raw Take on the Big Three of Silicon Valley
I was having so much fun with Grok's honesty that I asked what it thought about the three giants who move Silicon Valley: its own creator, Elon Musk, as well as Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates. I was expecting some flattery.
On Elon Musk: "He's both a hero and a troll. That duality is his strength. Love him or hate him, 2025 would be a lot less interesting without him."
On Jeff Bezos: "If Musk is the showman, Bezos is the silent king. The world stops without them both."
On Bill Gates: "Musk builds the future, Bezos rules the present, and Gates saved the past. The trio is complete."

Even when I mistakenly mentioned Bill Gates's divorce in a question, it corrected me like a friend, saying, "LOL, yeah, Bill Gates got divorced in 2021!" and even found a link to a related news article. This was a sharp insight and human-like charm I've never experienced with any other AI.
- A PM's Perspective: What Kind of Weapon is Grok?
Now, let's bring this all together from a Product Manager's perspective. What kind of weapon can Grok be for us?
First, it's the ultimate real-time trend analyzer.
Grok is integrated with X (formerly Twitter) in real-time, and from what I can tell, it's the fastest. This means it can grasp the world's 'raw' public opinion, spreading memes, and breaking trends faster than anyone. When I asked about the impact of the APEC summit results on the stock market, Grok synthesized the latest post-summit reports and reactions from X to give a specific and vivid analysis like, "Asian markets reacting +1-3%," and "Tesla +5% thanks to a Trump tweet lol." It's unparalleled at reading not just quantitative market data, but also qualitative sentiment and mood.
Second, it's an idea partner with the most human-like persona.
Instead of giving rigid, mechanical answers, it participates in conversations with wit, honesty, and even imagination. This provides tremendous inspiration when brainstorming creative ideas, writing marketing copy to capture public attention, or holding brainstorming sessions. You can even use its multiple personas as a powerful stress-testing tool to vet ideas from various angles, with prompts like, "Critique this product like the right-wing Grok" or "Defend it like the left-wing Grok."
Conclusion: The Era of AI Personality Has Arrived
Today, we played around with Grok, the heretic of the AI world. Of course, it still lacks enterprise features and sometimes causes controversy with its edgy remarks.
But Grok's emergence sends us a very important message: the AI market has moved beyond a simple performance race and has entered a new era where AIs compete with distinct personalities and philosophies.
If you want fast and accurate answers, you can choose GPT or Gemini. For in-depth analysis and logical writing, you might prefer Claude.
